Hm. Maybe he could turn around and grab a few more moments of sleep. The idea was appealing, and Echobreath felt his legs tensing up as if ready to turn himself around to curl up into his warm nest, but the medicine cat quickly shook his head to clear such appealing thoughts from his mind. No, no. He had to get started with collecting herbs for the day. It was always easiest to find herbs in the morning, when hunting and preying animals hadn’t yet trampled them down. Cobwebs were especially easy to find at such early hours, and Echobreath had to frighten himself with the thought of not being prepared for any injuries during the day so that he finally crept from the opening of the den and into the camp clearing. The tom stretched again, his eyes briefly glancing over to the fresh-kill pile before shaking his head and instead turning his attention towards the camp entrance. The pile was still low, not yet restocked from a warrior’s morning hunt, and he didn’t want to take prey away from the rest of the clan. He wasn’t that hungry yet anyways, so he would just pick up a fresh bit of prey when he returned. A brief purr filled the cat’s throat at the formation of this planned day and he soon set off to head out of the camp, nodding briefly to the warrior on guard before slipping through the entrance. He paused, taking a brief moment to smooth some of his thick fur from the tugging brambles of the entrance before hurrying on his way, briskly walking a few pawsteps before breaking out into a short run as a moment of kit-like joy filled the young cat at being out in the open before the world had even completely woken up yet. Echobreath trotted to a stop once he was a ways into the meadow, panting softly with a wide smile before shaking his head and shifting to focus on finding herbs. Sometimes he liked to wish that he could have simply been a warrior, where he could still goof off and have fun without all the responsibilities he now had. Someone had to work as a healer for the clan, though, and while it was a large bit of work with very little play, he enjoyed every moment of it. The clan would always need a medicine cat, unless they adopted the strange ways of their neighboring tribes. What curious customs the other groups of cats had. Echobreath shivered with excitement at the thought of the next gathering where he could learn more about their way of life. Shaking these distracting thoughts aside, the medicine cat then paused a moment to shake out his fur before beginning to carefully pad through the meadow, head lowered to sniff lightly at the various plants at his paws while he paused every so often to prod and brush at a promising looking stem. Hmm, now what was it he needed again..? tagged . |
